My blog post is about what to expect at your Cuddlebug Photography newborn session in San Diego and what to bring. When it comes to capturing those precious moments of your newborn, a professional photography session can be an incredible experience. It’s a chance to freeze those fleeting moments in time and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime. However, if you’ve never had a newborn photography session before, you might be wondering what to expect and what to bring. I want to make this an easy and enjoyable process for you. First and foremost, it’s important to find a photographer who specializes in newborn photography. Newborns require special care and attention, so it’s crucial to choose someone who has experience and has been trained to safely pose your tiny human. Take the time to research and find a photographer whose style resonates with you and who has positive reviews from previous clients. I have 8 years of experience with photography and many more years of experience with babies. I hold a Child Development College Degree as well and I am CPR certified.
The best time to start researching photographers would be in your second trimester, and then booking ASAP. I am often times booked several months out. Already had your baby? No problem, I will do my best to find you a last minute opening, but at times I do have to turn clients away and that always breaks my heart. Is your baby older than 2 weeks? No problem, I take babies of all ages. We just may have to adjust the posing for older newborns.
I will walk you through every step of the booking process, as well as selecting color and prop choices to ensure your vision and your taste is adequately portrayed in the portraits. Before the session, I will provide you with some a prep guide to ensure a successful shoot. These guidelines often include suggestions on when to schedule the session (ideally within the first two weeks of your baby’s life), how to prepare your baby (such as keeping them awake before the session to ensure they sleep during the shoot), and what to dress your baby in. On the day of the session, it’s important to arrive on time and be prepared. Bring along any special items or props you would like to incorporate into the photos (but these are not required). I provide everything needed for your session, so you can walk in stress free (hopefully!), hand me your baby and watch me do all the work! During the session, the I will handle your baby with the utmost care and safety, this is my number one priority! I have over 8 years of experience in posing newborns in adorable and comfortable positions, ensuring that your baby is always comfortable and secure. At any time baby needs it, we will take breaks for feeding, changing, or comforting your baby. Patience is key, as newborns can be unpredictable and may need extra attention during the session. Often times newborn sessions can take 1-3 hours depending on how many times we need to take a break. If baby is unsettled, there is a possibility that we may not get to every single pose or prop that was planned.
After the session, I will carefully select and edit the best photos from the session. This process can take some time, so be prepared to wait a week or two for the final results. I provide digital images as well as the option to purchase several different heirloom printed products. You can then decide how you would like to display and preserve these precious memories. In summary, a newborn photography session is a wonderful way to capture the early days of your baby’s life. Newborns change SO much in those early days.
